February Natural Hair & Beauty Favorites

I’ve been loving quite a few things that I’ve discovered (or re-discovered) this past February. From beauty products, to new found Youtubers, keep reading for a list of all my February Favorites & why I love them…

Let’s just jump right in!

Skin Care: Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant

I’ll be doing a full review soon on the Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant, but I have to mention it now because it is definitely a new favorite of mine. I’m very grateful to Paula’s Choice for sending this product to me to try because the very next day after using it, stubborn blackheads that I had been battling with were gone! I have some acne marks and hyperpigmentation (I’m one of those people who always pick their face) but this liquid has helped to speed up the fading process. I love it!

From the Company:

Skin naturally sheds billions of skin cells each day. But when this natural shedding slows or stops due to sun damage, genetics, or dry or oily skin, the results are unmistakable — you’ll be faced with dull, dry, or flaky skin, clogged pores, blemishes, white bumps and uneven skin tone when you look in the mirror.

Luckily, the right kind of exfoliant helps restore skin’s balance. When you gently rid your skin of built-up skin cells, you can reverse clogged pores, stop breakouts, smooth wrinkles and even eliminate dry skin. A powerful exfoliant like Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid:

– Makes skin smoother and eliminates dry, rough patches

– Increases skin cell turnover rate

– Allows other skin care products to work better

– Helps fade signs of sun damage, including wrinkles

If you’re interested in trying this product for yourself, the deluxe trial size of this amazingly popular product costs just $9. Also, be sure to use my coupon code, PRBHA16, good for 20% off + free shipping on your next order at PaulasChoice.com.

Face: Black Radiance pressed powder with e.l.f. Makeup Mist & Set Spray

product 2

A full every day makeup routine is also coming soon to the blog, but I have to mention this favorite now. To set my makeup, my go to for February was Black Radiance pressed powder with e.l.f. Setting Spray. It’s the perfect combination. I use the Black Radiance pressed powder in the color Honey Amber (8601) to set my highlight and use the color Golden Almond (8603) on the rest of my face. Then I follow that with e.l.f. Mist & Set Spray. This spray leaves me matte all day and keeps my makeup from transferring easily to other things. No matter what makeup I start with, my routine will always end with these products.

Lipstick: Kapow by ColorPop Cosmetics

I love many of the ColourPop Ultra Matte Lipsticks, but Kapow is my number one favorite lipstick for February. The color is just beautiful! ColourPop describes it as a muted taupe, but I think it has a slight purple undertone. I love the way it looks against my skin and find myself reaching for it over and over again.

Mascara: Rimmel London Scandaleyes

This was my go to mascara all month. The brush does a great job at lifting the eyelashes and creating volume while separating each lash.

I’ve tried to use other mascaras throughout the month but I just always go back to scandaleyes because of the beautiful results.

Makeup Remover: Microfiber Cloth

Did you know a microfiber cloth is a perfect dupe for the makeup eraser?! Did you know you can get microfiber cloths for $1 at the dollar store?!? Well if don’t know, now you know.

I’ve enjoyed not burning my eyes on makeup remover or from scrubbing my eyes with makeup wipes and instead using microfiber cloths.

All you do is wet a microfiber cloth with water and wipe off your makeup. That’s it. No soap needed. Don’t believe me? Check out this video:

Hair Care:  Carols Daughter Black Vanilla Leave-In Conditioner & Shea Moisture’s Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

product

All of February, I was loving spritzing my hair with Carols Daughter Black Vanilla Leave-In Conditioner and sealing it in with Shea Moisture’s 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. The combination penetrated my hair strands leaving my hair hydrated and soft. On days when I needed a little extra moisture, I’d spray my hair with water and then follow with Carols Daughter and coconut oil. For extra hold, I added a little Eco Styler gel to my ends and style as normal.

Hairstyle: Anything with bangs

I’ve been having a lot of fun with bangs this past month. I’ve been rocking puffs with bangs, two flat-twists with bangs, even headscarfs with bangs! I can’t get enough of bangs. Leaving out a curly bang takes a boring high puff to a stylish put together hairstyle. My hair is actually too long for a bang, and I wouldn’t dare cut it, so I fake a bang by pinning the front of my hair back about an inch and then pulling the ends of the hair forward. Pinning the hair back first gives the illusion of shorter hair… and I’m all for it!

Nail polish: Maybelline Color Show The Blushed Nudes Nail Lacquer, Toasted Taupe

I guess I was really feeling taupe this February. Between ColourPop’s Kapow and this Maybelline nail polish, I couldn’t get enough!

I love the Toasted Taupe Maybelline Nail Polish in the Blush Nudes collection because again, it such a pretty color! All of the shades in the Blushed Nude collection are meant to be nude polishes, but I think Toasted Taupe has just the right amount of oomph to make it more than just another nude.

The formula is easy to use and is opaque enough to get away with applying only one coat. It wears pretty well, but like most nail polishes chips after a few days. Still it’s was my favorite polish to wear in February.

 Youtube: AndThatIsTrice

I came across this Youtuber right before I made my last purchase from ColourPop. Like most girls, I wanted to see some swatches of the colors I was interested in purchasing on other girls who looked like me. AndThatIsTrice has a full makeup look on her page using none other than Kapow.

AndThatIsTrice has a bunch of makeup looks for brown girls and even uses products that can be found in the drug store!

  1. I just wanted to take the time out today to tell you how splendid I think passionmethis.com is. I visit the site at least once a week to see if you’ve added anything new!! I actually incorporated your hair washing technique {with a few personal tweaks} and it’s been way easier than what I was doing before and my hair is still healthy and growing. I’ve also taken on many makeup tips and suggestions you have. But I just realized I haven’t expressed my contentment. Keep up the great work!!

Quick question, did your doctor prescribe your medicated shampoo. I have slight exzema in my scalp and was wondering if I should try medicated shampoo. Also where do I get a scalp massager from? Lol

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    All The Best, Sharifa!!

Oh, and have a great weekend =)

    1. Hi Sharifa! This comment made my day. Thank you for the support and encouragement to keep going. I try to post weekly but working a full time job and managing a blog can be quiet difficult. But because of people like you who enjoys my content and wants me to continue, I keep going. Thanks for sharing your input because it really is motivating.

I’m so glad you’ve found my tips helpful. If there’s ever anything you want to know more about or any post recommendations, please feel free to reach out to me. I’m happy to take suggestions.

My doctor did subscribe my medicated shampoo. I have seborrheic dermatitis, so my doctor recommended a shampoo specifically for that. But I do need a prescription to get it and I have to pick it up at the pharmacy. I definitely recommend talking to a doctor if you are experiencing any issues. I lived with the an itchy flaky scalp for years before seeing a doctor and all along my problem was easily fixable.

This is the scalp massager I have: Vita Goods Scalp Massager. But it’s $40 on their website. I found another website that sells the same one and it’s on sale for $19.99, find it here. Mine was given to me as a gift, so I’m not sure how much it was or where they got it from, but those links are to the same one I use.

Thanks again for reaching out. I hope I helped answer your questions.
